Kathy Duval is the author of THE THREE BEARS’ CHRISTMAS  (Holiday House, 2005), a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year, and THE THREE BEARS’ HALLOWEEN (Holiday House, Sept. 2007) both illustrated by Paul Meisel. Her poetry has been published in the anthologies I INVITED A DRAGON TO DINNER AND OTHER POEMS TO MAKE YOU LAUGH OUT LOUD (Philomel) and LADYBUG, LADYBUG: AND OTHER FAVORITE POEMS(Cricket Magazine Group, 2007), as well as in magazines for children and writers.

Kathy was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Texas.  She has experimented with many methods of storytelling throughout her life. One of the earliest involved digging up her back yard to create cities and tunnels which she populated with small creatures.

As she got older, art became her medium for story making. She graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in art education and later completed a master’s degree in art therapy. She worked as an art teacher, art therapist, and school counselor and exhibited art in Houston galleries. While taking a course in children’s writing, she discovered a passion for words. Now she writes full time and works part time at a childhood development center for homeless children.
